Last weekend the Department of Geography at the University of Leicester celebrated its 90th anniversary. The anniversary open day was a great opportunity to showcase the research being undertaken in the department to former students and staff from across the decades and to members of the public. As part of the departmental exhibition, we produced a display about the Non-Stop Against Apartheid research project. Here are two of the posters we displayed there. Although one or two of the ‘old guard’ were overheard to complain “that’s not geography!”, one visitor expressed his pleasant surprise that geographers took activism, protest and solidarity seriously. The display has already led to one invitation to give a public lecture about the Non-Stop Picket (and we welcome more).
